Heysbrook In Summary...

Heysbrook is blessed with a variety of unique features. Not only is the lodge exclusively positioned in a spectacular valley, conveniently located two hours from Johannesburg International airport, on a good highway, (one hour from Nelspruit International airport), but it is steeped in South African history. The Heysbrook valley provides spectacular walks, integrating the extensive and diverse fauna and flora. Over time try all of the big five walks (or the little five).

Other activities include:

  • Great birding
  • Challenging fast water fly-fishing for trout on seven kilometres of the Heysbrook stream (rain permitting) - Trout fishing is also available on the Waterval Boven Club waters. Several dams as well as a ten kilometres of the Elands River are available.Trout fishing at several private dams in the area is also an option. Please discuss with lodge management.
  • Swimming in the natural rock pool
  • Rock climbing
  • Abseiling and bridge swinging
  • Clay pigeon shooting
  • Archery
  • Croquet
  • 4x4 trails (both on Heysbrook and in the area)
  • Steam train ride from Waterval Boven to Waterval Onder
  • Guided visits to several of the Anglo-Boer grave yards in the valley. The closest is a few hundred meters from the entrance to Heysbrook.
  • Historical buildings within a ten minute drive of Heysbrook include the Five Arch bridge, the Kruger museum, where Paul Kruger last lived before going into European exile and numerous turn-of-the-century buildings in Waterval Boven.
  • Many of the Mpumalanga tourist highlights are within a comfortable day trip of Heysbrook. A day outing could include a number of the following: Pilgrims Rest, Bourkes Luck Potholes, the Long Tom Pass, Kaapsehoop (famous for its wild horses and artist’s colony), Barberton, Sudwala Caves, the Berlin Falls and the Bridal Veil falls. Dullstroom is some forty minutes away with Graskop, Sabie, White River and several other tourist towns within easy reach.
  • Several high quality golf courses are within an hours drive. These include: White River Country Club, Sabie River Country Club, Leopard Creek and Malelane Country Club.
