Heysbrook Country Lodge SM-13.jpg

Heysbrook is about 2 ½ hours (250 km) from OR Tambo International airport on the N4.

From the airport:

  • N12 to Benoni or M1 to Pretoria (if Pretoria, Witbank off-ramp before Zambezi Drive)

  • N12 becomes N4 at Witbank.  Head east through toll towards Middleburg

  • Past Belfast turnoff (where you'd turn to Dullstroom)

  • Past Machododorp. After Machado toll there are two parallel highways, which are both titled, N4.  The alternate (new) N4 is via the Schoemanskloof road at the Montrose turnoff.  Heysbrook is not on this road, but rather is on the original N4 (keep to right branch at this split towards Waterval Boven).  This road passes Waterval Boven, goes through the NZASM tunnel, past Waterval Onder (and Heysbrook) and onto Ngodwana.

  • Heysbrook entrance is on the eastern (right if traveling towards Nelspruit) side of the N4, one kilometer past the Waterval Onder turnoff (the Tickled Trout restaurant is on this corner) just past a lay-by under a large flat-topped acacia tree.  There is a large Heysbrook sign (reflective at night) set into a stone wall. There is also a reflective sign "B21".  Do be careful here as the turnoff is on a long sweeping bend of the N4.

  • The railway line must also be crossed, and once again care should be exercised, as this is a busy line.

  • Once on the estate, there is a dirt road of some three kilometers.  Conventional sedans can traverse this road, though it may be slippery if it has just rained. Follow the pointers to the lodge.
